RAVEN CALLED

Up early, I headed out the door for a walk on the beach this morning. I did not get far. The strident sound of Raven called insistently. If ever you have heard the throaty call of a raven, you will never forget it. I stopped to listen. There it was, perched on top of the roof next door. "Remember the sacred laws. Remember." That's what it seemed to be saying. I feel the energy tingling in my body all the way down to my toes in acknowledgment of this truth. I headed back into the house, picked up pen and paper which led to this post. Today is Full Blood Moon and Lunar Eclipse-a powerful occasion.

Yesterday was a weird day. Shore birds were clustered in tight formations at the beach. The sky was strange. By 5 pm it seemed that the sun had already set. How could that be? Flitting dark energies zipped around at night while a friend and I sat outside in her salt water hot tub admiring the stars. Disturbances have increased all around the globe in recent weeks and in particular this past week. Evidence of a cauldron of disturbing energy has boiled up to impact this world. Grief has grabbed the hearts of millions, shocked by the horrors that have unfolded. Of course I thought immediately of Edgar Allen Poe's famous poem, The Raven,which tells the tale of a man who descends into madness as he grieves for his beloved.

Now, this famous phrase from Shakespeare's play, Macbeth, is resounding in my head: "Out out brief candle". Macbeth has realized that, regardless of achieving his quest to become king, he is still going to die. There's nothing he can do about that. He lapses into hand-wringing despair that life has one destination: death. Human life is like the candle. After it burns for a short while, the flame goes out and darkness reigns once again. No desire, no ambition, no acquisition of material things can stop this inevitable process.

Strong messages for this sunny morning. What are we to do in the face of what we are experiencing? I hear this: We are to Shine our Light even more brilliantly than any singular candle. The Light is what the dark fears most. The dark, attracted to the Light, at the same time seeks to dim the brilliance of this Holy Love that we are.

This is a time to be prayerful, a time to recite prayers and mantras from whatever tradition you practice. And if you do not have a tradition, ask for the energy of Grace to bless every aspect of your life. All traditions have darkness-dispelling methods. An integral process is to be like Hector the Inspector within yourself. Acknowledge the inner darkness. Embrace it with love and gratitude for the lessons that have been offered to you. Invite an infusion of deep peacefulness to fill all the nooks and crannies of your form called body. Invite peace into every cell and subatomic particle and all space in-between and all around you. Place your hands on your heart chakra. Breathe in and out. Normal breath, yet conscious. Your breathing will sync with Mother Earth's breath. She and we are all in need of time out from the violence that has been set loose by those who have fallen into forgetfulneess that we each are seedlings of love come from the great Source to grow in love and to share the love. When we fill up with peace and love, we become generators for these vital, nourishing energies.

Let's be Great Love Generators who spread Peace in a thoughtful manner wherever we travel in our hearts, minds, spirits and bodies today and every day going forward. Let's be brilliant during the time we have here on Planet Earth. No matter what your vocal talent may be, sing out loud this joyful song:
