FIERCE MANIFESTO

I woke up this morning feeling fierce. This feeling has not gone away. It’s now almost Noon. If you could see me, I’m a mature woman with white somewhat curly hair, now frizzy from humidity, with evidence of aging caused by rivulets of lines that crisscross my face. While walking to the morning meditation, Hawk acknowledged the fact of my fierceness. On the way back to my home, Flicker flew high to perch on the top of a mighty pine tree, further acknowledgment that today is a teaching day, a day to learn. The tee shirt that I am wearing comes from the Lynching Museum, otherwise known as The National Memorial for Peace and Justice. Located in Montgomery, Alabama, this museum speaks for the lynched. Loudly. It is a testimonial to horrific killing inflicted by those who have been infested with unbridled racism towards Black people. On my chest is a sunflower button that represents the people of Ukraine. The necklace I am wearing is in support of all the indigenous people subjected to genocide all over the world. You can’t see it, but I am also wearing the flag of the Palestinian people, the Tibetan people, and of all the people world-wide who continue to endure deliberate attempts to erase them from the face and memory of the earth.
What is it with such entitled belief systems that one group believes they have the right to annihilate into extinction other groups of people? Yes, yes, yes, some would say, it’s just the way this world works. There’s nothing we can do about it.
I don’t believe that this world has to work this way. As a species, we are lazy. We like our comfort. Out of sight out of mind, not my problem mindsets prevail. It takes concerted effort to accomplish the inner work of remediating lifetimes filled with hatred, murder, genocide and war. We must get this out of our systems. Literally. We must take the deep dive to cull out beliefs that have proven deadly to every form of life, including the life of our planet.
Yes, I am feeling fierce. Fierce for love. Fierce for peace. Fierce for equality. Fierce for justice. Fierce for freedom. Fierce for sustenance that supports a healthy, abundant life. Fierce for the children whom we have born into this debacle of human hatred. Fierce for all the plants, trees and creature beings who are at the mercy of the two-leggeds. Fierce for clean air, clean water, clean soil. Fierce for the ignition of the holy fire spark of God essence that resides within our sacred hearts.
We do know the way. We do know how to love. We do know that compassionate positive unconditional regard for every living thing matters.
Let’s stop being lazy citizens of this planet. Let’s rise up on this day that is dedicated to independence and freedom to support the sanctity of all life. We are interdependent. We are in relationship with one another, like it or not. Below the color of our skin, we are the same: bones, tissue, ligaments, brains, hearts, lungs, legs, arms, feet, hands, blood. We are the blood of the Christos incarnate. We are living expressions of Creator. We come from the One. We are downloads from the Heart of God. We all come from the same creational palette.
While seated in meditation this morning, The Apostles Creed began to come to mind. I recited it without speaking out loud. This declaration is one I have not said for many years. Here are the words that I grew up with in the Methodist Church:
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Because The Apostles Creed came charging into my fierce mind this morning, it means something in the way that I understand things. I leave you to your own interpretation of its relevance. Clearly something important is happening today and in this unfolding time of transformation. As Grandmother Twylah, my teacher, would say, we are in a time of great “quickening”. Be ready! Things are about to speed up in ways we could not anticipate. Be fierce with love and compassion!
I wish you well. I wish you Godspeed.
In gratitude that we have the opportunity to rise up together,
Barbara
