The Blue Sphere

Understatement: This has been a summer of tumultuous change. On every level of being. Of change inside and out and all around. Nothing is left untouched. There is this blue sphere that continues to catch my attention. It stands on a small rise that overlooks a pond on the grounds of The Christine Center. This sculpture teaches the art of stability in the face of high winds, rain, hail, winter storms and of the vagaries of human existence. I think of Hildegard of Bingen’s “The Man in Sapphire Blue,” her vision of the compassionate god-essence that resides within the heart of the human. There is a stability in our connection with Source. No matter what, we are continually connected with Creator. No matter what, we are anchored through times thick and thin. Whether or not we sense the depth of this essential connection, nonetheless it remains true. I find this particular sculpture inspiring and comforting. It reminds me every day that I am not alone, that I am tethered to something greater that provides constancy no matter what the source of upheaval may be. May this be so for you as well, dear reader.
