About The Event
Earthquake Relief Zoom Gathering
Wednesday, August 19, 2026 8 PM EDT
Hola, allow me to introduce my adventure tourism best guide ever, Juan Carlos Ramirez.

We met in 2000 in Caracas, Venezuela, when I joined a trip to explore the Venezuelan Amazon, learn from Piaroa shamans, and visit with the Yekuana people. I was hooked!
Since then, I have traveled twice more to different areas of the Venezuelan Amazon and twice to Colombia.
Truthfully, there is no one I would trust more with my life than Juan Carlos. He is a gentleman, educator, adventurer, friend of native people, and a man with a lifelong passion for exploration. He has posted some phenomenal documentaries. Be sure to check them out!

Sadly, the toll from the back-to-back 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes centered near La Guaira and Caracas, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, is still being revealed. As of August 2026, the official death toll has risen to 6,301, with approximately 73,300 injured and tens of thousands still missing or displaced.

Here is today's news video from Reuters: https://reut.rs/4gy9bFh. This particular article compares relief efforts in Venezuela with the response to the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that happened in Colombia on , which has also suffered this week an enormous earthquake on August 10, 2026.
People are homeless, without employment, with scant access to the already bare-bones medical system. They are sleeping in tents in parks and among the rubble. Grieving. Shocked. And having to start all over. The economy is crippled. The main international airport into Venezuela is closed for an indefinite length of time because of the destruction. This is a catastrophic situation and one that will take years to recover from.
The intention of our fundraising efforts is to funnel donations for direct, grassroots assistance through Juan Carlos’ Akanan Amazing Adventures, both characterized by integrity, honesty, and strong moral principles. His team of guides, family and trusted friends are engaged in outreach on the ground in the greater Caracas area.
I don’t know about you, but when offering donations, I always seek to do so through an integrous, reliable organization. No middleman. No skimming of monies. Direct service with heart-centered compassionate care.
Barbara Woolley is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting for the purpose of providing ongoing relief support through thoughts, prayers, intentions and donations. Juan Carlos will give us an update of the situation.
